There is something so special about getting to photograph a family through every season of life. I first met Simon’s parents during their engagement session, then photographed their wedding day, newborn session, and now his 1st birthday celebration birthday session. Getting to document these milestones over the years is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer.
Simon’s 1st birthday session was simple, playful, and full of personality. The clean studio setup kept the focus on him while still allowing little details to shine. From the bright balloons to the tiny rocking chair, every part of the session felt sweet and timeless.
One of my favorite things about photographing one-year-olds is how unpredictable and fun they are. One second Simon sat quietly looking around the studio, and the next he was crawling full speed across the floor while his parents laughed behind the camera. Those candid moments always end up being some of the most meaningful photographs because they capture exactly what this stage of life feels like.
I also loved seeing how naturally his parents interacted with him throughout the session. They made him laugh, played with him between photographs, and fully embraced the chaos that sometimes comes with photographing toddlers. That joy and connection showed up in every image.
Milestone sessions like this are such an important reminder that photographs are not only for the big moments. They are for the in-between seasons, too. The tiny expressions, the curious looks, the chubby toddler hands, and the playful energy all change so quickly. Capturing those little details before they disappear forever is what makes sessions like these so meaningful.
Watching this family grow over the years has been such an honor. From engagement photographs to wedding memories and now celebrating Simon turning one, this session felt incredibly special. I cannot wait to continue documenting all the beautiful milestones still ahead for this sweet family.
